Track-Before-Detect for an Active Towed Array Sonar

چکیده
Conventional active sonar processing systems typically reduce the sensor data from an intensity map to a pointmeasurement form via a detection thresholding process. This approach is often sufficient for detecting and tracking high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) targets but becomes more challenging for low SNR targets. Track-Before-Detect (TkBD) is an alternative tracking technique that supplies raw sensor data to the tracker to determine the presence and kinematic state of a target. This paper considers the application of TkBD to an active sonar tracking problem using the Histogram-Probabilistic Multi-Hypothesis Tracking (H-PMHT) algorithm. To aid in the detection of targets in the sensor image, the measurement model for the standard H-PMHT algorithm is extended to incorporate a bearingdependent point spread function. Using real data gathered from sonar trials, the performance of the resulting multitarget TkBD algorithm is shown to be more robust at low SNR levels when compared against a conventional point measurement tracker based on Integrated Probabilistic Data Association.

This paper concerns the problem of array shape tracking from clutter for a towed active sonar array. Although heading sensors can provide towed-array shape information, they are sometimes not sufficiently available or accurate to facilitate beamforming with low sidelobe levels necessary for detection of low-Doppler targets, especially in the presence of severe bottom reverberation. We propose a...

متن کاملSeabed Characterization by Inversion of Acoustic Data from a Towed Array
The goal of geoacoustic inversion is to estimate environmental parameters from measured acoustic fields from e.g. a towed array. Though the inversion results have some uncertainty, inversion is an efficient technique to estimate environment parameters. Based on the a posteriori probability density of environmental parameters obtained from inversion, we perform statistical estimation of transmis...
متن کاملA unified method for measurement and tracking of contacts from an array of sensors
A multiple target track estimation method that operates directly from array data is presented. The maximum a-posteriori (MAP) estimator for contact states is derived for temporally uncorrelated signals and uncorrelated contact tracks, where the number of contacts is assumed known. This estimator is an iterative algorithm employing a nonlinear programming (NLP) penalty method in conjunction with...
